From Wednesday 19th July to to Saturday 22nd July, the Lavenham Players will be performing As You Like It in the tranquil grounds of Lavenham Hall.
The talented cast – drawn from the leading lights of the thriving amateur dramatic scene across South Suffolk as well as from Lavenham itself – will transport the audience to the idylls of The Forest of Arden where much of the action takes place, but not before they have enjoyed picnicking in the beautiful gardens of the Hall.
The play is an enduring favourite among Shakespeare’s comedies, complete with lords, shepherds, wrestlers, court jesters and, in Rosalind, one of the Bard’s strongest heroines.
This production, co-directed by Paul Vella and Clare James, is the third outdoor Shakespeare production produced by Lavenham Players. The previous two productions, 2013’s Much Ado About Nothing and 2015’s Twelfth Night, were both sell-out shows, drawing spectators both from the village and beyond, and received acclaimed reviews.
- Wednesday 19th July – Friday 21st July: 7.15pm performance
- Saturday 22nd July: 2.15pm matinee and 7.15pm performance
All performances will take place in the grounds of Lavenham Hall and spectators are welcome to bring along a picnic and seating/rugs. The gardens open an hour and a quarter before the play starts.
It is anticipated that all performances will go ahead as scheduled, even in the event of inclement weather conditions, therefore spectators are advised to bring along a rain mac if bad weather is forecast.
Tickets for all five performances of As You Like It are now on sale and can be purchased online at www.ticketsource.co.uk/event/167571 or from Sparling and Faiers bakery in Lavenham Market Place or Jonathan Lambert Bespoke Jewellers & Kate Denton Fine Art (next to The Swan, Lavenham High Street).
